The people of Earth had long abandoned the ritual of dramatic hubbub that once accompanied every new cataclysm. So when it was announced that a meteor was headed towards Bumbleport, the residents of the city simply said, “Thanks for letting us know.” Cataclysms were as much a part of life as breathing.

No one particularly liked cataclysms, but everyone had a favorite. From one month’s horror to the next, there was always a nugget of charm that people would find buried in these otherwise terrible tragedies. Everyone needed something to smile about.

Some people were obsessed with cataclysms. As Bumbleport prepared for destruction, these morbid tourists gathered around to watch the spectacle. Experiencing a cataclysm such as this was dangerous, but they couldn’t miss it. They needed to feel it. They knew that if people stopped caring about cataclysms, that would be the greatest disaster of them all.
