Hole

Hole

The hole alongside Boring Hole Road was (unsurprisingly) not the most exciting hole in existence. After discovering it in 1792, the renowned explorer Jerold Crawford wrote in a letter to his wife:

I fear my whole expedition will be overshadowed by this disastrous discovery. It is a bad hole, jagged and uneven. I sense no purpose to it. A good hole beckons you in, but this one repulses me. I pray a rock might fall swiftly upon my head, sparing me the lingering memory of this travesty. No one should visit this hole - it is a waste of time.

Despite almost everyone publicly agreeing with this assessment, it was hard to pass by without stopping for a peek. While gazing into its depths, people often began to secretly admire it. They knew its steadfast commitment to an unremarkable existence was something truly admirable. The hole did not consider itself any sort of hero; it was just happy that people were still stopping by to visit after more than two-hundred years.
